Audio

Clipthesis manages audio assets — music, voiceovers, sound effects, and production recordings — as first-class library items alongside your videos and photos.

Supported Formats

.wav, .mp3, .m4a, .aac, .flac, .aiff, .aif, .ogg, .opus

Audio files are picked up by drive indexing (when the drive's Audio category is enabled) and by the Import flow.

Waveform Thumbnails

Every audio file gets a waveform image rendered from its actual audio content, so the library grid stays visual even for sound files. Quiet recordings (like voice memos) are gain-boosted before rendering so their shape stays visible.

Audio cards show a music-note badge with the file's duration, and the codec in place of a resolution.

Playback

Double-click an audio card to open the detail modal. The waveform is displayed full-size and the same player controls as video apply:

• Space — play/pause
• J / K / L — slower / pause / faster
• Click the progress bar to seek
• Mute toggle

WAV, MP3, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG, and Opus play directly in the app. Formats the built-in player can't decode (notably AIFF) fall back to a message offering to open the file in an external player via Reveal in Finder.

Transcription

Audio files are transcribed just like videos: when auto-transcription is enabled, newly indexed or imported audio is queued automatically, and the transcript panel in the detail modal supports click-to-seek. Voice memos and voiceover takes become searchable through unified search. See Transcription.

Filtering

The Media Type filter in the library sidebar has an Audio option to narrow the grid to audio items only. See Search & Filters.

Ignored Cache Folders

Editing tools generate large numbers of internal audio files — DaVinci Resolve's CacheClip proxies alone can add hundreds of WAVs. Clipthesis skips these app-internal folders during scans so they never pollute your library. The full list is in Drives → Ignored Folders.
